asani’s defeat, a lesson to learn
The defeat of popular BC leader, Kasani Gyaneshwar, in the MLC elections from Ranga Reddy district, is a lesson to learn, particularly those who play the caste and currency cards in public life.  Gyaneswhar, a real estate man, had entered public life using his caste card – Mudiraj. He was able to rally the Mudiraj community in the State and had held several public meetings for the caste spending a good portion of money he had earned in the real estate business. He was close to the Telugu Desam for some time and later moved to the Congress. Then he sailed with the Praja Rajyam Party in the 2009 elections. He had floated a party which was a short-lived one. Now, he had tied up with the Congress for the MLC elections from Ranga Reddy district. He believed that he would be able to do anything with his money and caste. However, his defeat speaks volumes about the changing situation in the State and just the caste and cash does not work always. His defeat also teaches a lesson to the Backward Classes that persons like Gyaneshwar should be kept aside if they wanted due share in politics and development.
